Kiran started his working life as a school teacher in an experimental residential J Krishnamurti school in Varanasi. He started his career in advertising in 1983, as a copywriter in Lintas (now Lowe). He became the youngest Creative Director in Lintas, then joined Clarion Advertising (1991), became its national creative director, and ended up, in 1997, as its first ever Chief Executive Officer and Chief Creative Officer (CEO and CCO).
In 1999, he co-founded chlorophyll, India’s first end-to-end brand consultancy firm which has so far defined and differentiated as many as 200 brands. It specializes in creating brands from scratch and in aligning brand behavior to brand values.
As thought leaders in the category, chlorophyll has developed intellectual property through two brand models, (anthrop™, wholon™) one e-book (www.brandideantity.com) and one brand alignment tool (www.litmosi.com).
Kiran was brand consultant to UIDAI, the Government of India’s arm that developed Aadhaar, the world’s largest biometrics-based identity project
Kiran was the very first speaker at TED University at TED’s first Indian meet in 2009. In addition, he has published two books of fiction, Halfway Up the Mountain and Two Pronouns and a Verb, one more (Black River Run) and a non-fiction (Brands & Bullshit) are waiting publication.
